Introduction to Drawing
4-Week Series:
SEPTEMBER 3, 10, 17 and 24
Wednesdays from 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Fee: $250 for the Series
Led by Agnes Wong, Joy of Drawing instructor
Drawing, a way to explore the visible universe and see what is around us, is at the heart of all successful visual artwork. Learning to draw may seem daunting if starting later in life. But like learning any new subject, once you grasp the basic skills, you will find the results amazing.
This Introduction to Drawing series of four classes specializes in teaching beginners as well as reorienting those who may have stopped drawing years back. Based on the book The Joy of Drawing: A Beginner's Manual by Caroline Mustard and Katy Lea, available through Barnes and Noble and Amazon, the teaching style is inclusive and based on its mantra: No Pressures; No Judgment, Just JOY!
Expect to learn the following over the four-week series:
Week One: Learn the basics of your drawing tools and how to use them. Learn how to create simple guidelines to help you see and use them to draw an eye that will wow you!
Week Two: Learn how to use tonal values to create depth, and use this to create a very realistic drawing of a skull or a rose, your choice!
Week Three: Learn how to break down what you see around you into simple shapes and forms and use this to complete a still life drawing using the techniques learned so far.
Week Four: Learn the most important points of being able to draw from life, including being able to estimate proportions and angles, just using your pencil, and finish up with a final drawing of flowers from life.
All materials are provided, though you may bring your own. We welcome the use of watercolors, pastels, and colored pencils to add color to your drawings if you wish.
